Hi, I'm Gray.

I’m a freelance journalist. Over my 15-year career, I’ve written about everything from horse girls to houseplants, but I’m currently most drawn to stories about how systems and policies shape the most intimate and vulnerable moments of American life, from reproductive care to birth and parenting to mental health and substance use recovery.

My work has appeared in dozens of online and print outlets, including the New York Times, the Guardian, Atlanta Magazine, the Bitter Southerner, Garden & Gun, Communication Arts, Vice, and more. Essays of mine have been printed in two books: “Southern Women” (HarperCollins, October 2019) and “Why We Cook” (Workman Publishing, March 2021).
